Helmarock makes Zelda music more metal

Materia Collective has released a new album today, Helmarock: Zelda Metal Vol. II, which gives songs from Nintendo’s classic franchise a metal makeover.

This is a followup to the original album that Materia Collective released in 2017. The album posts a runtime that’s twice as long as its predecessor. It features metal arrangements of songs from Zelda classics like Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, Majora’s Mask, The Wind Wind Waker.

“Transitioning Koji Kondo’s music to rock and roll feels like a very natural process – as I am huge fan of both,” noted album arranger and producer Joel Kent in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “Working with some amazing faculty during my last couple of semesters at Berklee has really pushed my playing and arranging style, and I believe my progress as a musician is evident in this project. Taking a break from my original music and jamming some of my favorite Zelda tracks during the process of recording this EP was just what I needed to concede the things I love about rock guitar, along with video game music in general.”

The album is available on Bandcamp and Spotify.

Materia Collective publishes arrangement albums like this and original soundtracks for indie games like Deltarune.
