MSNBC Lets Guest Claim FBI Was Behind King Assassination

On Friday’s The Beat show on MSNBC, host Ari Melber gave no pushback and oddly seemed to go along with one of his guests, talk radio host Charlamagne tha God, when he repeated as fact the conspiracy theory that the FBI was behind Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1968 assassination.

The strange moment came during the show’s regular “Fall Back Friday” segment in which a panel of guests are invited to bestow criticism on someone who made news that week. As all three co-hosts of The Breakfast Club made up the panel, Angela Yee complained about recent reports of a teacher in North Carolina who bizarrely claimed that Dr. King committed suicide and then denigrated a student who corrected her on the matter.

Charlamagne tha God then jumped in to comment: “And it’s very important to note that Martin Luther King was told to kill himself by J. Edgar Hoover, who is behind his assassination as well.”

Host Melber was unfazed as he responded:

That’s one of the deep state plots that actually is the deep state you don’t hear as much about, which was the illegal — not only surveillance of King and Civil Rights leaders, but then, as you say, the abuse of that, it’s a part of American history that’s stranger than fiction and very sad and important to address.

The MSNBC host then shifted to talking with the third panel member without voicing any disagreement with the theory just asserted by his guest that the FBI was to blame for the assassination.
