MRC’s Bozell: ‘Triumvirate of Radical Left-Wingers’ Jumped on Covington, Smollett Stories

In an appearance on the Monday edition of the Fox Business Network’s Trish Regan Prime Time, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell blasted “the triumvirate of radical left-wing Hollywood, radical left-wing news reporters, radical left-wing politicians” for jumping to conclusions with the Jussie Smollett case.

Bozell began by calling out the similarities between how the liberal media attacked the Covington kids after the release of a deceptive video and how they latched onto what were already dubious claims by Empire actor Jussie Smollett:

Didn’t we just see this movie play about a month ago ahead called Covington? Didn’t we see the exact same thing where somebody made an accusation, in this case, an altered video? And you saw the triumvirate of radical left-wing Hollywood, radical left-wing news reporters, radical left-wing politicians all jumping on the bandwagon to blame not just the President, but his supporters for participating in racist activities. Here we go again.

To drive his point home, Bozell cited MRC studies of the Smollett hoax hate crime and the very real 2017 Facebook Live torture of an autistic white man at the hands of black teens. Between January 29 and February 14, the broadcast networks spent 101 minutes on Smollett’s accusations. When the Facebook Live torture incident first broke, only CBS Evening News covered it with a mere 27 seconds.

Further MRC research published later on Monday night found that Facebook Live torture was there and gone in just four days with the networks spending just 24 minutes on it.

Bozell concluded by demanding to know where and when the liberal media were going to apologize to President Trump and his supporters for smearing them:

Why don’t they start condemning themselves? Why isn’t there a conversation about these same reporters, these same Hollywood people, these same politicians all jumping on the bandwagon? Why isn’t there a story about them? Why aren’t they apologizing? Why are they not apologizing? Where are the apologies to the President? Not just from Smollett but all these people who put gasoline on the fire. When are they going to apologize to the President for what they’ve done to him and to his supporters?

SUSAN LI: Here with me know on the media apparent jump to conclusions in this case, the Media Research Center president, Brent Bozell. So we do have some of the Democratic 2020 hopefuls now walking back some of their initial statements Smollett case. That includes Cory Booker who called it a “modern-day lynching”. We also have Nancy Pelosi erasing supporting tweets at the time. What does it say about the Democratic, I guess, leftists jumping to conclusions in supporting this case without really looking at the facts?

BRENT BOZELL: Didn’t we just see this movie play about a month ago ahead called Covington? Didn’t we see the exact same thing where somebody made an accusation, in this case, an altered video? And you saw the triumvirate of radical left-wing Hollywood, radical left-wing news reporters, radical left-wing politicians all jumping on the bandwagon to blame not just the President, but his supporters for participating in racist activities. Here we go again.

I want to give you a statistic we came across just this evening. It will put things in its proper perspective. In the last two weeks, on this untrue story with Smollett, you have got over 100 minutes of network news time. Almost exactly a year ago in the same city, there were four men who kidnapped and beat a severely disabled man who had nothing do with Donald Trump, severely, mentally disabled. They beat him and put him in the hospital while screaming anti-Trump obscenities. This Smollett story over 100 minutes of coverage and this got over 27 seconds.

LI: Ok, well, let me ask you this then, since all this new evidence is coming to light, do you think those on the left and the Democrats will be as quick to condemn Smollett as they were to believe him?

BOZELL: Why don’t they start condemning themselves? Why isn’t there a conversation about these same reporters, these same Hollywood people, these same politicians all jumping on the bandwagon? Why isn’t there a story about them? Why aren’t they apologizing? Why are they not apologizing? Where are the apologies to the President? Not just from Smollett but all these people who put gasoline on the fire. When are they going to apologize to the President for what they’ve done to him and to his supporters?

LI: Brent, great to have you on the program tonight.
